The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has informed that the three wrestlers leaving the camp, which also had Sakshi Malik, unceremoniously had gone home for Rakshabandhan and were reinstated after they explained their sudden leave. Apart from Malik, Seema Bisla and Kiran were the other two.

The incident happened on Saturday, August 15, when 25 of the 45 wrestlers in the national camp were suspended by the WFI. They were supposed to assemble on August 16 following the Alexandre Medved event in Belarus, but the attendance taken only showed 13 were present. Hence, barring those who had taken a release from the camp, the rest were all barred.

However, WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar has now revealed that the three wrestlers, who were amongst the suspended 22, had gone home for the festival of Rakshabandhan. And Rio Olympics bronze medallist Malik has been again reinstated at the SAI Centre in Lucknow after she replied to the show-cause notice.

“Sakshi said that she had gone home for the festival and admitted that she made a mistake by not taking due permission for it. Seema and Kiran also gave the same reasons. They have replied to the show cause notices and apologized. So now they are back in the camp,” he said, reported IANS.

Apart from Malik, Bisla of 50kg and Kiran of 76kg were also amongst the 25 wrestlers suspended from the national camp, and now the trio’s participation at the Worlds would no longer in doubt after the clarification. Tomar also stated that all the wrestlers have replied to the federation and have been asked to return to the camp.

The fate wasn’t so happy on the grapplers, who had their World Championships trials on Monday for they weren’t allowed to participate. The World Championships would be held in Kazakhstan from September 14 to 22.
