Serena and Venus Williams were granted a wild card into the French Open women’s doubles on Thursday as the legendary duo seeks to add a third Roland Garros title to their victory bag. The sisters have won 14 Grand Slam doubles as a team but have featured together only twice since their last victory.

The Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, have a noted professional rivalry, both having been ranked by the Women’s Tennis Association at the world No.1 position in both singles and doubles at some stage. They have 14 Grand Slam Titles to their names in the doubles feature but have only played together twice since their last win, losing in the first round in 2013 and the third round in 2016.

Serena and Venus Williams now will come back together as a wild-card entry in the French Open and look to add a third Roland Garros title to their existing victories in 1999 and 2010.

Serena, a three-time singles champion in the French Open, is back after winning the Australian Open in 2017 and taking a break off the court to give birth to her daughter in September. This will be her first Grand Slam tournament since her return.

On Thursday, she was fixed to face Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic in the first round of the singles that begins on Sunday. Venus Williams starts against China’s Wang Qiang.
