Novak Djokovic secured a 6-2, 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 victory over his French opponent Adrian Mannarino to enter the last eight of the Grand Slam event for the ninth time in his career. In the women’s draw, Johana Konta thrashed second-seeded Simona Halep and registered a 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 win.

The second-seeded player, Djokovic, overcame an injury and grabbed a 6-2, 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 win against Mannarino in the pre-quarter tie. During the match, the second-seeded player needed treatment for a troublesome shoulder, but he had enough in the tank to complete the game on a victorious note. Now, Djokovic will face 2010 Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych on Wednesday in a bid to secure a semi-final spot.

In women’s singles, 26-year-old Konta controlled her nerves to claw back from near-defeat in the second set and beat second seed Halep in a thrilling match. She registered a 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 win to become Britain’s first women’s Wimbledon semi-finalist since 1978.

"I've always believed in my own ability and I've always dreamt big," Konta said as quoted by BBC Sport.

"But I'm much more process orientated, so I don't give myself too much time to dream. I'm more focused on the work."

In the next round, the British player will face five-time champion Venus Williams on Thursday for a place in the final.

Williams won her match in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to knock out French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko and reach the semi-finals.

In another match, Garbine Muguruza thrashed Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The 14th seeded player will next play against Slovakia’s MagdalĂ©na RybĂĄrikovĂĄ.
