Arsenal have confirmed that they have signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City for a reported fee of £45 million after Mikel Arteta had identified the Brazilian as his primary target to improve the London club’s attacking options. Jesus has signed a long-term deal with the London club.

Arsenal are in the midst of an overhaul at the club as Mikel Arteta aims to restore the Premier League side to the pinnacle of English football. The Spanish manager has made some wholesale changes at the club to implement his vision as he let Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette depart the club in the span of six months. The North London club aimed to reinforce their attacking options after extending Eddie Nketiah’s deal and the Arsenal hierarchies had identified Gabriel Jesus as the priority target for the role.

Negotiations with Manchester City were in full swing and was conducted smoothly with the English champions looking to let the attacker leave after the Brazilian had been a faithful servant to the club in recent years. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the leading strikers in the league in recent years with the Brazil international scoring 95 goals in 236 appearances across all competitions while helping City claim eight major trophies during his time at the club.
