Chennai Super Kings won against Mumbai Indians by three wickets on Thursday courtesy of an MS Dhoni and Dwaine Pretorious partnership at the end. Pretorious revealed that Dhoni was planning the chase and he told Pretorious to wait for his scoop shot for the penultimate over of the innings.

IPL 2022 has been a poor season for both Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings so far. However, Chennai Super Kings registered their second win of the tournament over MI on Thursday in a last-ball thriller. CSK won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mukesh Choudhary provided early wickets and MI was unable to recover after that. They lost wickets at regular intervals and posted a total of 155/7. Mukesh picked three wickets while Dwayne Bravo scalped two wickets.ย

The chase should have been an easy task for CSK but they also lost wickets at regular intervals. They were reduced to 106/6 at one stage but the onslaught by Dwaine Pretorious and finishing by MS Dhoni provided them with the win. Both of them stitched a partnership together and added 33 runs in the last four overs. Pretorious played a brilliant scoop against Jasprit Bumrah in the 19th but he had an idea of executing the shot in the 17th over against Bumrah. Pretorious revealed that Dhoni told him to wait as he had a plan in mind. The plan worked pretty well for the team as they won the game.

"I wanted to go for that scoop shot in the first over against Bumrah but he said wait, wait, wait and I waited. The next time I said that now I am going [for the scoop] and he said go for it. He (Dhoni) is the master at finishing. Did it again tonight,โ€ Pretorious told Star Sports after the match.

The calculation turned out to be spot-on as Dhoni smashed 16 runs in the last four balls to take the team over the finishing line.
