Akull Kumar, Esha Singh strike silver in mixed air pistol juniors in Hannover

Both Esha Singh and Akull Kumar had topped the qualification before they were outdone by just 5.4 points for the yellow metal in the junior mixed air pistol event at the International Shooting Competition. It was the second medal for Esha after she won in the Czech Republic recently.

Both of them had topped their qualification events before the German pair of Jan Luca Karstedt and Vanessa Seeger outdid them in Germany on Wednesday. Approaching the competition in good form Esha shot 385 out of 400 in the qualification event, which was better than the 370 by Akull Kumar, who had to miss the individual final by just two points. 

India’s hopes were pinged on Esha who had previously won gold medals in air pistol in the women’s, junior and youth sections of the last National championship. However, although she had to settle for a silver and this was her second mixed medal after she had won recently with Anmol Jain in Plzen.

Aditya Malra had also qualified in the third place in junior men’s air pistol with a score of 568, but couldn’t remain afloat in the final and placed.
