Anjum Moudgil and Apurvi Chandela have secured a place in the 2020 Olympics after their performance at the World Championships. Moudgil won a silver and Chandela finished fourth in the women's 10m air rifle event of the ISSF World Championship on Monday, to make the cut for the 2020 Olympics.

Moudgil secured the second position on the podium behind Korea's Hana Im who shot an excellent 251.1. Eunhea Jung of Korea rounded up the top three with a score of 228.0. Moudgil finished in the silver medal position with a score of 248.4 in final that included seven other shooters. Chandela could only manage a total of 207 points before she was eliminated in fourth place. However, she will make the cut since a country can avail two places in the Olympic event.

The International Shooting sport Federation's (ISSF) premier tournament also assumes added significance as its first Olympic quota event for the 2020 games in Tokyo, offering as many as 60 berths across 15 events.

Both Moudgil and Chandela’s scores in the finals included quite a few high 10s indicating that both of them played really well. Earlier in the qualifications, Moudgil and Chandela had finished fourth and sixth respectively.

Even though the two shooters have secured their places in the Olympics, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) will take the final decision about who shall be selected, based on aggregate scores of other shooters in India.
