Mumbai City FC lost narrowly to UAE's Al Jazira FC 1-0, in the AFC Champions League 2021-2022 group stage match at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday. It was a close match right from the start with Mumbai coming close to scoring a couple of times.

But it was Ali Mabkhout’s penalty in the 40th minute that helped the UAE-based club register a win. This means that Mumbai has now dropped to the last position in Group B with only three points. They have lost two and won one so far. Even Al Jazira has a similar record, but after the win, they moved to third place.

On the other hand, Saudi Arabia's football side Al-Shabab, tops the group with seven points, while Iraq’s Air Force Club is second with four points. At the start of the match, it was Al Jazira, who attacked Mumbai's post, but the latter managed to keep a goal away. Throughout the first half, Al Jazira continued with their attacks, especially from the right flank.

In fact, in the 34th minute also they came close to scoring a goal, but the ball hit the post. Later, Mumbai showed aggression after being 1-0 down, but all their efforts were in vain. Their best chance though, came in the 59th minute, when a failed clearence by Lallianzuala Chhangte put in a long cross for Mourtada Fall, who managed to head the ball, but wide.

Mumbai City FC will play Al Jazira again on April 18 at the same venue.
