Having made a loan move back to the club where he made his name, Gareth Bale has revealed that he was always looking to make a return to Tottenham someday in the near future. The 31-year-old becomes the club’s fifth move this summer and is set to make his return to England after seven years.

Despite struggling for funds this summer, Tottenham have managed to pull off an impressive transfer window with them signing five players. That includes moves for Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojiberg and Gareth Bale with the latter possibly the most high profile move that Spurs have made this summer. Few expected them to re-sign Bale this summer with him heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford instead.

But a last-minute intervention from Jose Mourinho saw the North Londoners walk out of the Santiago Bernabeu with Bale and Reguilon. However, in his first interview since re-signing for Spurs, Bale admitted that he was always looking to make his return to Spurs someday in the near future with the move always on his mind. He further added that he feels his goals for the future and aim to win trophies is something that Tottenham will help him achieve.

"It's nice to be back. It's such a special club to me. It's where I made my name. Hopefully, now I can get some match fitness, get under way and really help the team and, hopefully, win trophies. I always thought when I did leave that I would love to come back. I feel like it is a good fit. It's a good time for me. I'm hungry and motivated. I want to do well for the team and can't wait to get started," Bale said reported the BBC.

"I think by going to Madrid, winning trophies and going far with the national team I feel like I have that kind of winning mentality, how to win trophies. You don't realise it until you're there and in those situations, in finals, how to kind of deal with the situation, the nerves, the pressure, and I think that all goes with experience. Hopefully I can bring that to the dressing room, bring a bit more belief to everybody that we can win a trophy, and the target is to do that this season, to be fighting on every front possible. I want to bring that mentality here, back to Tottenham."
