Chennaiyin FC striker Nerijus Valskis has admitted that his team cannot afford to miss the good chances created to score. After a disappointing opening game loss to FC Goa away, Chennaiyin were left to rue several good chances against Mumbai City FC as the match ended in a goalless draw.

Goalless draws are not a rarity in ISL football. But to come away with only a point from the game on Sunday night, particularly after the number of good chances that came in the way of Rafael Crivellaro, Andre Schembri, and second-half substitute Valskis, is frustrating, to say the least.

"We played well. We had a lot of chances. But they also had a few chances. We cannot let this happen always and need to improve our defending," Valskis said after the match, reported Goal.com.

Head coach John Gregory sent in the 32-year-old lanky forward in the final 15 minutes of the game in a desperate attempt to register their first win of the new season. Valskis admitted that it was perhaps his nervousness on making his home debut at the Marina Arena in Chennai that played a part in him fluffing his lines with a couple of good chances that fell his way.

"I was a bit nervous. When I got the chances, I had to go for it quick because there is no time to think and I was unlucky. We must learn from our mistakes and look forward. We had a positive game and created chances. (But) I must say we must play better," he said.

But there is no point languishing on what is past, and Valskis himself is already looking ahead to welcoming ATK next.

"I hope I start on Wednesday and hopefully we get a win,” Valskis added.
