Records are meant to be broken and the Sunrisers Hyderabad openers have taken the saying too literally this IPL season. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma joined hands to rip apart the Delhi Capitals and break a seven-year-old record of most runs scored in powerplay, set by Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn.

Playing their first home game in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to field first against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. As Pat Cummins expressed their ploy about attacking the opposition bowlers right from the word go during their last game, the SRH openers followed the instructions without any second thought. As the left-hander pair produced a carnage act inside the powerplay, they managed to surpass the record for the highest runs in powerplay in the IPL.

Following a 19 and 21-run first couple of overs, SRH raced to the fifty runs mark in the third over itself. With Head and Abhishek teeing off against the DC bowlers, Rishabh Pant and co. seemed toothless during the powerplay phases. With 103 runs in five overs, Mukesh Kumar bowled a good length delivery outside the off stump that Head sliced over the cover region to extract a four. With the boundary, the Orange Army broke Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn’s 105-run record in powerplay,  Eventually, the pair went on to orchestrate 126 runs in the pwoerplay, sending the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
