Six Indians reach finals of GeeBee Boxing Tournament in different weight categories

Indian boxers Shiva Thapa, Mohammed Hussamuddin, Kavinder Singh Bisht, Dinesh Dagar, Naveen Kumar, and Govind Sahani have qualified for the finals of the ongoing GeeBee Boxing Tournament in Helsinki, Finland. Sumit Sangwan and Sachin Siwach bowed out of the tournament with bronze medals.

Thapa defeated Russian boxer Mikhail Varlamov by a 5-0 verdict in the 60 kg category to book his place in the summit clash of the category. He will face a tough challenge against local favourite Arslan Khataev in the final bout. On the other hand, the 56 kg final will be an all India affair as Hussamuddin will take on Kavinder after they won their respective semi-final bouts against Kazakhstan's Zhanbolat Kydyrbayev and Jordan Rodriquez of France respectively. 

Dagar won the semi-final in the 69 kg category after the split 4-1 verdict went in his favour during the bout against Sergei Sobylinski of Russia. He will take on Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Pat McCormack from England. Naveen will also face an opponent from England in the +91 kg category as Frazer Clarke is waiting for the Indian in the summit clash after the latter defeated Australia's Justis Huni by a 4-1 verdict. Sahani dominated the 49 kg category semi-final by defeating Russia's Artysh Sojan 5-0. He will now cross swords with Thitisan Panmod of Thailand in the final encounter.

Meanwhile, Sangwan and Siwach lost their semi-finals in the 91 kg and 52 kg category and had to be satisfied with bronze medals from the tournament. England's Chevon Clarke thrashed Sangwan 5-0 while Siwach lost 1-4 to Azat Usenaliev of by Kyrgyzstan.
