Hima Das’ golden patch of form continues as she made a comeback in her specialist category in some fashion by finishing first by quite some distance and recording her season-best timing. This was her fifth gold medal in the month, whereas four other Indians secured medals in various events.

Hima Das can simply not be contained at the moment as her sensational run of late carried on. She finished the 400-metre race in the Czech Republic with a timing of 52.09 seconds, her best in the category so far in the present season. She broke her previous season-best record of 52.88 seconds but fell considerably short of her personal best mark of 50.79 seconds which she had recorded in the Jakarta Asian Games last year.

The difference between other racers and Hima Das was quite significant, with only VK Vismaya recording a timing of less than 53 seconds. The 19-year-old Dhing Express had already won a couple of gold medals in Poland in the 200m category, before adding two more to her collection in the same category in the Czech Republic.

The Arjuna Award winner, however, was running her first 400-meter race since having pulled out with back spasms in the Asian Athletic Championships in April. Her coaching staff had stated that the athlete would be focusing on this category with the next year’s Olympics in mind. Das though failed to qualify for the upcoming World Championships, not being able to reach the required mark of 51.8 seconds.

In the other categories, Mohammad Anas recorded 20.95 seconds in the 200m category and won a Bronze medal, while MP Jabir won the gold medal in the 400-metre hurdles race with a timing of 49.66 seconds.

Nirmal Noah Tom bagged a silver in the 200m category, finishing seven behind the winning timing of 46.12 seconds.
