Archery World Cup | Indian compound teams are in line for Bronze medals

The Indian men’s and women’s compound teams have qualified for the bronze medal play-offs while the recurve teams got knocked out of the ongoing Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey on Thursday. The men’s and women’s Indian teams will take on Russia and Great Britain respectively in the play-offs.

The Indian men’s compound team, which comprises of Rajat Chauhan, Abhishek Verma and Aman Saini, got the better of their opponents from France in shoot-off in the quarter-final round. However, they were defeated by the home team Turkey by a small margin of one point and had to play the bronze medal play-off. The Indian team lost 233-234 to Turkey. The Indian men’s trio will face Russia with an aim of finishing the World Cup with at least a bronze medal in their kitty.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Swati Dudhwal and Muskan Kirar were the female archers in the team event for India and they had to lose 29-30 the shoot-off against Russia in the last four. The Indian trio was tied at 232-232 in the semi-finals before losing in the shoot-off. The women’s team will now meet Great Britain in the bronze medal play-off tie.

The India men’s recurve team of Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Pravin Jadhav were defeated by a margin of 4-5 (27-29) in the shoot-off by Italy while the women’s team lost to Germany by a margin of 4-5 (26-29). Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi Laishram and Komalika Bari represented India in the women’s team event in the World Cup. Both the recurve teams have been knocked out of the tournament.
