Indian archer Praveen Kumar has finished ninth in the ranking round of the World Cup stage II in Shanghai, China. On the other hand, the Indian men’s compound team combined to finish at the fourth position in the qualification round of the World Cup in China while the women’s team got sixth seed.

Compound archer Praveen Kumar was the only Indian archer to put up a stunning show in the ranking rounds for India as he shot 704. The Indian archer stayed eight points below the table topper from the United States of America Matt Sullivan of USA to enter the second round of the World Cup. Two other Indians Lovejot Singh and Gurwinder Singh stood 21st and 44th respectively which helped the Indian team to get to 2091 points and occupy the fourth position in the qualification round. India will take on 13th seed team New Zeland next.

Among the women, Parveena was the best Indian as she finished the round at the 20th spot. Her compatriots Monali Jadhav and Priya Gujjar managed to get to the 24th and 25th places respectively as India got a combined sixth-place finish. The Indian compound women’s team will now take on Singapore which is ranked 11th at the moment.

In the compound mixed pair competitions, Praveen and Parveena will represent India. The dup secured seventh seed to make it to the pre-quarters where they will face Malaysia.

After a lot of controversies, not a single compound coach has travelled with the Indian contingent and in their absence, recurve coaches - Sumesh Chandra Roy and Sawaiyan Majhi are looking after the compound archers in Shanghai.
