Archers Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari have been selected in the Indian squad for the upcoming World Archery Championship which will be held in The Netherlands from June 10. India will get an opportunity to book team quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics during the upcoming world event.

Indian archers Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav, Deepika Kumari, L Bombayla Devi and Komalika Bari have been selected for the 2019 World Archery Championship which will be played from June 10 to June 16 in The Netherlands. The six archers were selected after a three-day trial camp in Bhubaneswar. A total of 16 archers were picked up from an open selection trails which were earlier held in January while top eight of the Senior National Archery Championship were also a part of the final trial session.

India will have an opportunity of ensuring its qualification for team quota places for the Tokyo Olympics. A good performance at the world event will lead to India’s participation in three team (including mixed) and two individual events.

Both Atanu and Deepika had a bad outing at the recently-concluded National Championship in Cuttack. Atanu managed to clinch only a bronze medal while Deepika failed to finish inside the medal bracket at the championship. However, the former World No. 1 finished at the top after a good show in the trials. Veteran L Bombayla Devi and Jharkhand’s Komalika Bari will also be a part of the squad for the World Championship.

Atanu finished second in the men’s trials and the team has also got veteran Tarundeep Rai and Services archer Pravin Jadhav who bagged a gold medal in the Nationals.
