Ace Indian archer Deepika Kumari managed a podium finish at the Olympic test event as she managed to clinch a silver medal after dominating the women’s recurve event. On the final day, Kumari was in top form before her confident run was halted by 18-year-old Korean An San, who was 6-0 in the final.

With the Tokyo just over a year away, Indian archers have put on an encouraging display in the Olympics test event, which was held in Yumenoshima Park in Tokyo. While the AAI has been reeling in controversy with Indian archers’ participation in the quadrennial in doubt, the archers haven’t let all that affect them.

Former world No. 1 archer, Deepika Kumari gave the world a glimpse of her abilities in the event as she dominated the women’s recurve event throughout before faltering in the summit clash. The Jharkhand archer would be keeping the fans excited as she made her first individual final in a world event in some style since winning a gold at the World Cup Stage III in Salt Lake City last month.

The women archers would get their chance next to book a place in the Asian Championships, which has been scheduled to be held in Bangkok from November 21-29.

“We saw the place. Hopefully we’ll qualify for the Olympics if can we perform like this. I’m improving. We don’t have any Olympic medal. We will try our best next year,” said Kumar, reported TOI.
