IPL 2024 | Twitter awed at sliding Sumit recreating a Jhonty Rhodes to run out Sudharsan
Fielding is not just about athleticism; it's about anticipation, positioning, and quick decision-making. Such was the scene in the clash between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals where Delhi’s Sumit Kumar showed great athleticism with an exceptional run-out dismissing Sai Sudharsan.
Opting to bowl first proved to be a smart decision for Delhi Capitals as they swiftly dismissed Shubman Gill in the second over. While Sai Sudharsan and Wriddhiman Saha sought to build a solid start during the powerplay, Mukesh Kumar claimed the crucial wicket of the Gujarat wicketkeeper. With David Miller partnering Sudharsan, Gujarat aimed to stabilize the innings as they stood at 28/2 after four overs. However, Sudharsan's departure, courtesy of an exceptional fielding effort by Delhi's Sumit Kumar disrupted their plans.
On the fifth over's opening delivery, Ishant Sharma delivered a length ball that Sudharshan nudged towards mid-wicket, prompting a quick single. Responding swiftly, Miller also set off for a run. Yet, Sumit, stationed at mid-wicket, displayed remarkable agility as he grasped the ball and made a precise underarm throw to dislodge the stumps catching Sudharsan short of his crease. The on-field umpire referred the decision to the TV umpire and the subsequent replay confirmed that the southpaw was short of the crease by a healthy margin.
Social media platforms buzzed with admiration for Sumit Kumar's brilliant fielding, drawing label with great Jhonty Rhodes' effort on the field.
